About

Send me your suggestions!

I’d love to try recipes you send to me. Who knows, you might end up in the Souper Freak kitchen for a taste test!

About Me:

I’m not a great chef but I am a cook who is getting better all the time. I like cooking and trying new recipes, especially when there are appreciative people to feed. My favorite taste-tester is my boyfriend Tyler, since I’ve somehow tricked him into thinking I’m seriously a really good cook :) My cooking inspirations are my mother (who I call on for random cooking tips) and my grandmother (the only Midwestern grandma I know who works wonders with tofu). I grew up in Cleveland and now live in San Francisco. When I’m not chopping and simmering, I’m stewing up donations for the ACLU of Northern California, walking around the Panhandle, or spending time with friends.

Why Soup?

Soup is healthy and nourishing. It can be very affordable to make. Soup is calming and comforting - and delicious. Soup recipes use a variety of ingredients. They are imprecise and allow for creativity. I don’t think you can mess soup up. Soup caters to a range of tastes and moods - hot, cold, thin, thick, salty, sweet, simple, complex. It seems to be part of every cuisine and culture. Almost everyone has positive memories and feelings about soup.

About My Recipe Selections:

I choose my recipes based on what ingredients I have on hand, what is available in the current season, what I can get at the local farmer’s market, and what I feel like cooking and eating. Each local….eat seasonal….eat cheap!
